I have applied a thicker coat of this polish that is why the cracks are wide. One word of caution though, avoid doing multiple coats of this polish, and if you feel the coat is not thick enough to your liking, apply another coat really fast before the crackle effect of previous coat starts to show. I like to apply a clear nail polish over the crackled effect as it dries matte. So, as it dries rapidly and unevenly, the nail polish applied on nail shrinks giving the appearance of cracks and revealing the base color underneath.Ĭolorbar Pro crackle top coat dries completely within 3-5 minutes, depending on the thickness of the coat applied. This is because ethanol is added to the polish which makes it dry quick and uneven. I like to apply a thick layer.Ĭrackle nail polish is different from other nail polish mainly because it dries differently. If you apply a thin coat, there will be many cracks, but not very widespread. If you apply a thicker coat, the number of cracks may be less but they will be apart enough for the base color to pop.
The crackle nail polish dries into a unique pattern everytime. The crackle effect depends on how thin you apply the coat. The quantity is enough and will easily last atleast an year, that too if you apply it regularly. Unlike normal nail polish, crackle nail polish is slightly on thicker side. But 2 years back crackle (or shatter, whatever you like to call it) was really ‘in’ and it was the only polish even remotely related to nail art. DISCLOSURE: I purchased all of the mentioned products myself. If you hold the want too far from the nail the pattern may come out blurred – see image above… NOTES For best result paint your nails first like you would use regular nail polish and then apply second coat, nail by nail, holding the wand for couple of seconds over the freshly painted nail. With the magnetic nail polish have in mind that the closer the wand to nail polish surface the sharper the pattern. The thicker layer of shatter top coat the bigger, bolder crackles will be. When using crackle nail polish be sure to let the base coat dry properly first before applying shatter top coat to avoid smudged colours. Magnetic nail polishes come with different wands / magnets to create not only star shaped pattern but also waves, swirls and many more designs. I’m actually quite amazed myself how easy to create the pattern was… although next time I will need to keep the wand in even distance over the nails to get the pattern correct. My daughter calls it “magic nail polish” and says it musts contain some magic potion from Papa Smurf.

Neither me nor my daughter could get convinced to the white Rimmel Crack Your Colour – Break The Ice varnish, it looks more like correction pen than nail polish in my opinion but I will give it a try in different combinations and update this post shortly…
